Art for me is a process of learning and exploration a combination that is methodical and relaxing. I've learned from works by professional artists by examining and understanding how their process for art making and the ways I can use their method to improve my own.
Jagnjic and Rozalski have both had an impact on how and why I make art. Tomislav Jagnjic creates incredible artworks and places the narrative in the title, such as his piece “yo bro is it safe down there in the woods? yeah man it’s cool”. With the artwork illustrating a mountain sized creature giving a thumbs up to a figure standing on a hilltop. The artwork is breathtaking, incredibly detailed and demonstrates incredible artistic ability while keeping the piece funny and light with the title. Jakub Rozalski, is another inspirational artist who uses rough brush strokes to create beautiful fluid movements. I had been following his artwork even before I knew his name and I was enthralled by the way visual brush strokes added the texture and gradient into the piece. It is these artist's passion and interesting use of art that inspires me, and their attention to the craft is breath taking. It’s pushed me to look at the way I was making art.
For the past two years I have been push myself out of my comfort zone. Two years ago, I didn’t know what the difference between oil and acrylics except that one was more expensive. For two years I have been expanding my abilities as an art student and using mediums it has opened my eyes to the wide variety of art mediums available. I had limited myself to 2hb pencils for years, and I have been experimenting with charcoal, oil pastels, colored pencils, acrylic paints, oil paints, digital software both 3D and 2D animation, with more on the way. I've learned a great deal these past couple of years, and I'm excited to see what comes next for me.
