We are happy to announce that we are participating in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Participation is open to any interested and eligible 6th—8th grader. For specific details about eligibility criteria, visit http://spellingbee.com/eligibility.
The steps to qualify for the Scripps National Bee follow:
Classroom Spelling Bee- November 13-16 - The top 10 students from 6th , 7th, and 8th Grades will advance to the Campus Spelling Bee. (a total of 30)
Campus Spelling Bee - December 11 - The School 1st Place Champion will advance to the Ellis County Spelling Bee. 2nd & 3rd Place Champions will be “alternates” in the event that the 1st Place Champion is unable to compete.
Ellis County Spelling Bee– Early in February 2024 usually in Waxahachie
Dallas Regional Spelling Bee– March 9, 2024 The top two spellers will advance from the Dallas Regional Spelling Bee to the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
National Spelling Bee Week- May 26, 2024 in Washington, DC (The winner of the Regional Bee and a guardian will receive all-expense paid trips to the Washington, D.C. area for Bee Week. )
On November 13-16 students will participate in the preliminary round, the Classroom Spelling Bee. Word lists will be sent home in advance of the bee for you to review with your child. The Classroom Spelling Bee will be administered in a written format that resembles a spelling test. The top 5 students from 6th , 7th, and 8th Grades will advance to the Campus Spelling Bee, which will be administered in the traditional oral format. The School Champion will move on to the Ellis County Spelling Bee.
Attached you will find a list of grade level words to study for the Classroom Spelling Bee, which will consist of 15 words from the grade level list as well as 5 challenge words. The challenge words are from the Classroom Spelling Bee list also.
