The purpose of this website is to provide you with a sneak peek of our classroom. I hope to introduce myself and tell you a little bit about our class and the grade one program. This website is always a work in progress. You will find lots of resources for use at home as you see fit. Please be patient as website creation is not my area of expertise ;)
About Mme Krista...
Here is a little about me!
I grew up in Northern New Brunswick near Campbellton where it was common for local friends and family to speak French in order to communicate with Quebec travellers as well as one another. My grandmother was French (first language) and I naturally enrolled in French Immersion myself from grades 1 through 12. I always enjoyed being around young children and so it seemed a good fit to continue my higher education at Mount Saint Vincent in the Child and Youth Studies program. Afterwards I decided to go onto my Education degree in PEI. Having loved the people and similar country lifestyle that I was used to, I decided to stay. I am happily married with two young busy boys. Believe me, I understand what it is to be a busy full time working parent juggling both homework and extracurricular activities! I encourage you to simply do your best. With an open line of communication from both school and home "we've got this!".
My youngest just started grade 5 and my oldest is in grade 7 in the French Immersion program. I think it's a wonderful skill to have not only to challenge our young children but also for their brain development, cultural awareness, and future job opportunities. Also, it is just plain fun in grade 1! I absolutely LOVE coming to work each day. Though it is definitely a job that takes a lot of energy and patience, I often can't believe I get to sing, and play learning games and get paid for it! Though I've taught grade one for about 15 years now, I still marvel at how "my" littles truly are like little sponges. When they enter the classroom, many are unable to read, write, or speak a lot of French. Then gradually (yet seemingly all of a sudden) you see their little faces light up with that "aha moment" beaming with confidence in their new found skills.
All that 'long winded' way to say ....I love my job and thank-you for trusting me with your children each day. I promise to do my best and wish each family a fantastic year ahead. We're already off to a fantastic start! :)
PS- I have included some pictures of the classroom and myself. (Scroll down to the bottom of this page and click on the 'pictures icon' if you are interested). As you can see I like to have a little fun and enjoy dressing up for themed days at school. I want to assure you however that I do take my job very seriously ;)
