Music through Stories
Tunes and Tales - this is a collection of stories and songs created by a Westy mom, Leah Ellis. I have a copy of the Fishing Trip and Ballad of the Beavers and Chameleon on the shelf
Symphony Story Time
Rhythm practice
Start by having students "Turn and Talk" to share their favourite breakfast cereal.
Watch video until 3:04. Notice he uses "Doo and de" instead of ta and ti ti. And that's ok!
Hand out wooden spoons so students can create their own rhythm and play along. Stop and start as necessary.
Harmon in Space - instruments of the orchestra by the Kingston (ON) Symphony. The Symphony Orchestra features all instrument. The Playlist is all episodes, all are under 10 minutes.
Animusic
Body Percussion
We learned about, listened and moved to "In the Hall of the Mountain King" before Halloween. We do lots of body percussion in music. But not like this!
Music Explorers - best for K & 1
Rhythm Play-alongs
Grade 3
Classes can clap and speak or use an instrument from the percussion shelf: hand drum, tambourine, shaker, sticks, etc.
Scarf Activities
Have a helper hand out scarves and follow the actions. Have students go in their "Scatter Spot" (poster on the wall next to the SMARTboard for reference)
Please have the Kid of the Day or a helper hand out scarves (black bags hanging on the wall) Remember to pull from the bottom of the holder and you get what you get and don't get upset! While they're being handed out ask if they can name some ocean creatures. Then they can act out with their scarves the way that creature might move.
Follow the video and sing along.
MOVEMENT
Art
Drawing supplies are on the shelf in the corner. Distribute and have students use the floor or a white board to rest their paper on. There are also some text books (Share the Music) on the big shelf near the white board. Feel free to stop the video to allow them time to catch up.
Four Corners
The instructions are pretty simple although we haven't done this one before. Do as much or as little as you like.
These will need to be printed. The printer is in the staff room. Select "Quick Print Release" and "slhanson".
