Class FAQ
Q: Do you have a microwave in your class?
A: YES! We are going to try having the microwave in our classroom to see how it goes. I do not mind heating up food for students but if possible please do not send food that needs to be heated every day. If I have 10 or 12 students needing the microwave every day, waiting their turn can EAT UP their lunch time. Also please do not send food that need to be made (noodle cups etc). If you want to send things like that please make them at home so they just need to be reheated.
Q: Can my child bring toys/items from home?
A: While I do ask that toys from home stay home, there are opportunities for children to bring other items from home in. For example: If you have recently come back from vacation or had a special event and have a souvenir or photographs your child would like to share, I have no problem with that. Please remember that fragile or valuable items may not be the best to send in with a 5 year old.
Q: Do you celebrate holidays in your class?
A: Yes and no. Are we going to spend a whole month on Christmas, Halloween, Valentine’s Day, etc.? Probably not. I am a firm believer in celebrating what is important to my students and their respective cultures, and I try to do this in a respectful and meaningful way. If your family has any special holidays or customs that you celebrate or practice, please let me know; I would love to have them shared with our class.
Q: Do I need to send a change of clothes with my child?
A: Yes, please do! Sometimes it’s the weather, sometimes it’s the art area, sometimes it’s biology, but no matter the reason, kindergarten children need a change of clothes with them at school.
Q: Will my child have homework?
A: Yes. Later in the year, I will be sending home books that your child will read with you. From time to time I may also send home small activities with the children. These books and activities are meant as a way for children to practice their skills and share their successes with you. These homework assignments should never be a cause for stress or anxiety to either the child or their family members who are working with them.
