LANGUAGE ARTS

Our themes for the month of October include fall, Thanksgiving, and family.  This is a great time of year to use our five senses to explore and create with apples and pumpkins.  We will continue to practice reading and writing our names and the names of our classmates, while focusing on vowel sounds and vowel letter names.

This month we will also work on distinguishing between letters, syllables, and words.  Students are learning to recognize rhyming words.  The goal is to eventually have students recognize and produce rhyming words on their own.  It's always fun to play name games to practice this skill (think the Name Game song:  Jenny Jenny Bo Benny, Banna Fanna Fo Fenny, Fee Fy Fo Fenny, JENNY!).

Alphabet practice and identification is all done in French.  Please let me know if you notice that your child could use a little extra support identifying letters in English as I have some extra resources to send home if you wish.

MATH

This month we will be working on patterns with 2-3 elements (identifying, creating and extending AB, ABB, ABC patterns) and the numbers 0-5 (recognizing, representing, and printing the numbers zero through five.)  The students who are ready will work on counting the numbers zero through ten.  In class we start counting on from numbers other than one and zero (ie. 6…7, 8, 9, 10) and we do a lot of practice counting forward and backward.

BREAKFAST PROGRAM

Our breakfast program is up and running.  Student who would like some toast, fruit, or cheese can go to the kitchen as soon as they arrive in the morning.

HOME READING

We are still reviewing the songs in our song book and it will be going home shortly.
