Yes, I do. Encouraging students to speak in French is a gradual process. At the beginning of the year children will speak in a bilingual environment as they gain confidence and independence with spoken and written French. Our library, music, and Phys Ed classes are all taught in English. I use incentives from September through December to encourage students practice French vocabulary with me and with classmates, and then there is a gradual release of responsibility and independance after January when students are expected to speak in French at all times.
Reading regularly to your child in English or in French (approx 10-15 minutes per day) is a great way to establish a "homework" routine! Curling up on the couch or in bed with a good bedtime story, reading the school’s newsletters, flipping through a comic book or magazine, or even playing a few word games on the computer are all great ways to read with your child. Once we have had some time to read the books in class, students will come home with 2 books (first night read the books, second night practice reading with more fluency and expression) and spelling work. There will be a spelling test on Fridays and the results will be sent home on Mondays so that you may see how your child is getting along with the spelling words/sound of the week.
Absolutely not! There are resources to help parents at the Canadian Parents for French webpage: https://pei.cpf.ca/ Under "FSL resources", there is a section just for parents!

Yes, if you are inviting the whole class your child can pass out the invitations. If you are inviting only a few children, please send me a note to tell me about the invitations and I will quietly place the cards in each child's school bag.
Yes! Due to life-threatening allergies we are peanut-free and also fish/shellfish free.
Student drop off is between 8:05a.m.-8:25 a.m. Classes begin at 8:30am, so dropping your child off by 8:20 is preferable. Our day ends at 2:35pm. We walk outside together as a class around 2:30pm; first we meet parents/guardians on the grass near the fence in the parking lot, next we walk through the bus loop together, and finally we meet the after-school programs on the basketball pad.
