Working on: Review of wants and needs (besoins et désirs) , listening/ viewing of French presentations, drawing and fine motor skills, creativity, writing simple messages through drawing and or words.
Before the holidays, we discussed the difference between a want and a need as it relates to our everyday lives and in the context of Christmas gifts. The students made a list for Santa with a drawing of something they wanted and something they needed.
With your child, review the Powerpoint “le cadeau”. (link provided) Children can see a present on each slide, guess what is inside and click to reveal. Then they can think about whether the item is a want (désir-je veux) or a need (besoin-j’ai besoin) and click to reveal the sentence.
For the second slide show Les Besoins et Desires. Due to technology limitations, children should guess all items that they believe will fit the category before they start clicking because the yellow circles are set up in a specific order which they may not follow. Trying to avoid frustration...."Oh you guessed them all. Now I wonder which one will circle first when you click!!"
After the slideshow, have your child draw something that they received for Christmas that is a want and something that is a need (OR just any two items from home). Their drawing should have lots of detail. At school we would colour it using a variety of colours. They can label parts of their drawing…using kindergarten spelling (write the sounds they hear) or write a very short sentence starting with Voici (Here is).
