T-Ball in 1C
We read a book about t-ball and many kids mentioned they had never played before. So, out we went for a game!
MEASUREMENT SHOW WHAT YOU KNOW CENTRES
Length - Use a marker to measure the length of the carpet and a desk
Mass - Use a balance to compare the mass of various school supplies
Capacity - How many cubes can fit in various cups?
Area - How many pieces of paper does it take to cover the brown, fluffy carpet?
Measurement Fun

We played a game as part of our health/social studies unit on wellness called, Go, Go, Grow! Pretty happy faces on a Friday afternoon.

The frogs have transitioned from eggs to tadpoles!
(Don't mind Mme. Katie goofing around in the background, haha!)
AND
Thank you to Mrs. Spencer for collecting these little guys for us to study.
LIVING/NON-LIVING THINGS
We learned about the life cycle of a sunflower last week. Then we created posters to show what we know and planted seeds.
(Next week = Tadpoles!)
We did a deep dive into hibernation this past week. First we learned about the who, what, when, where, and whys of hibernation. Then we made 3D caves, trees, and burrows and wrote about them. After that, we learned about when and why animals come out of hibernation and made 3D hedgehogs, bats, bears, and squirrels out of clay. We wrote about those too!
From our patterning unit to penguin art, December has been a busy month!
IB's Pajama Project was a huge success! Mrs. Swan has already taken her first round of jammies for the Sherwood School Christmas Families Program. She will take another stash today after school. The rest are going to Parkdale Elementary and Island Pregnancy Center.
Read alouds with Mrs. Weatherbie are always so much fun! We love our EAs!
MATH CENTERS - We are focusing on a skill called subitizing in math. Subitizing is recognizing a set without counting (ex. six on dice). Subitizing is a precursor to addition and subtraction.
REMEMBRANCE DAY IN 1B - My brother, Danny, is a reservist in the Canadian Navy. He came to 1B to talk about his tours to Bahrain and Egypt. 1B wrote him letters and drew pictures to thank him for his service.
THE PAJAMA PROJECT - As part of our social studiest unit on giving back, 1B is collecting new pajamas for kids in need until the end of November.
PHYSICAL SCIENCE - MATERIALS, OBJECTS, AND OUR SENSES
We did our first science experiment in grade one! We tested different materials to see which one was best for catching bubbles. We used paper plates, tissue paper, tin foil, plastic, and our bare hands.
Comparing teen numbers - card game
We're learning about our five senses this week, so we had Mr. Tony in for a singalong to practice using our sense of hearing!

We marked Orange Shirt Day with a writing activity about how we can show loving kindness to each other everyday. (above)
We celebrated our favourite book series with Mercy Watson Day! We made pig headbands, made toast with butter, jam, Cheez Whiz, graphed our favourite toast topping, wrote about it, then did games and activities. OH, and we also read an ENTIRE Mercy Watson book in one day. (below)

She is the villian in the Mercy Watson series we're reading.
COLBY'S CAKE DRAWING LESSON
It was Ms. Super S' birthday on Thursday, so we made her birthday cards. Colby knows how to draw a really good birthday cake, so she gave a drawing lesson to kids who wanted to follow along.
