March 2024

March 18-21

Here is a look at our shorter week before March Break:

Theme week:

Tuesday: Hat day/ silly socks

     Wednesday: favourite colour day

     Thursday: PJ day

Friday - no school - start of March Break

Fundations - continue Unit 8 focuses on r-controlled vowels.

Trick words: world, answer, different, many, party.

*Please have your child practice these each evening as part of their homework.  There is a space in their homework log for students to print each of their trick words neatly in the appropriate box corresponding to the day of the week. Students are encouraged to practice in other fun ways throughout the week as well. Some suggestions: sing, chant or stomp them or use magnetic letters.  They could also be written on strips of paper and cut out (letter by letter) and be reassembled several times. Or write their words in fancy writing. Consistent practice will help students spell these words accurately in their written work.

Homework reading:  Please return any homework books by Wedneday.  Students are welcome to read books from home this week or use Razkids.com this week.

*See the Learning Websites tab at the top of the site page above for log in information.

Math - two digit addition and subtraction with regrouping.   Two digit operations with regrouping are among the most complex skills we learn in grade two.  I remind my class each day to be gentle with themselves and not to worry if they are not understanding it right away.  We will continue to practice together to help build confidence. :)

Language Arts - Nonfiction.  We should finish up our polar bear projects this week.

Notes:

March Break:   No classes March 22 - April 1  (Easter is included in those dates.)

Websites tab:  I added a tab at the top of this page that has the log-in information for Raz-kids, Splashlearn and Get Epic. This info was included in some posts in November, but added the info to its own tab to make it easier to find.

Winter/Spring clothes - Please ensure your child has all  their winter gear and an extra set of mitts when they come to school.  The school seems to be very low on extra winter clothes to lend students who might have missed packing them that morning.  If your child happens to come home with mittens, etc that you don't recognize, they may be from the school's extra supply and can be returned.  Please label all gear with your child's name.  It helps when items are found and if students have similar items - to sort which items belong to which students.   Splash pants and rubber boots might be a good option some days as it gets warmer.  Our playgrounds can be quite wet and muddy in the spring.

Extra utensils in kitbags - Please back an "emergency" spoon or two in your child's school bag, so they will have an extra if there is not one in their lunch bag that day.  Also, on days when lunch is ordered, vendors do not provide cutlery.

Have a great week and enjoy the March Break!
