Find a quiet spot that is free of distractions and clutter.
Set up a homework schedule – set aside a specific time each night for homework so that it becomes a regular routine.
Quit before it becomes frustrating - if your child becomes discouraged or frustrated when doing homework then try taking a break and returning at a later time. If homework is a "battle" at home, please let me know and we will work together to problem solve.
Homework is meant to be a rehearsal of what was already learned in class. All songs, words and readings have been taught in class. If your child has difficulty with the readings and words, please contact me and we can discuss what can be done to help. Homework is meant to reinforce what was learned at school and should not be something "new" to your child.
Don't let homework go on too long. Ten or fifteen minutes of review each night is suffice.
Celebrate your child's learning...use homework time as a time to connect with what they are learning and celebrate their accomplishments. I hope you have a positive experience with homework throughout the year.
Until Christmas break, homework will consist only of nightly reading. Please enjoy this time reading with your child and celebrate their learning.
Some weeks I may include a small game as part of homework as well!
Following Christmas break we will add some a writing and/or math component to our homework.
