The focus of our program is to encourage students to engage in problem-based learning and help them to realize that teaching and learning can occur anytime, anyplace. The Chromebook 1:1 Program facilitates:
Enhanced student engagement and technology literacy through the use of technology both at school and beyond the school day.
Enriched individualized and collaborative learning experiences that develop creative, innovative, responsible, informed, and discerning global citizens.
Equitable opportunities for all students and staff to utilize current technology tools and digital resources for research, communication, collaboration, and expression of ideas and information.
Use of consistent applications to better communicate with and enhance the connections among staff and students.
If you have additional questions, please contact Mr. Frank Rossi, Director of Technology (frossi@clintonpublic.net)
Chromebooks will be turned in at the end of each school year. The same device will be redistributed at the beginning of each school year. New devices will be provided in grades 5 and 9.
Students will be assigned the same device each year. Students entering 5th and 9th grades will be issued new devices.
It is recommended that students grades 5 through 12 take their Chromebook home to continue their work and charge daily. All Chromebooks at Joel will be stored in home rooms in charging carts to be used when needed. Regardless of where the device is stored, the student is responsible for the security, condition, and charging of the device.
Students should exercise extreme care and caution while possessing the Chromebooks and must protect it appropriately. CPS will not provide any cases or other forms of protection. It is our intent to allow students the freedom and flexibility to choose a case or bag to their liking.
Even though some backpacks are manufactured with padded sleeves or pockets specifically for laptops, it is not recommended to place the device in a backpack as any pressure can crack/damage the screen.
Yes, unless instructed otherwise by their teacher(s).
The life expectancy of a Chromebook is 4-5 years. If the assigned Chromebook fails to perform up to standard, the district will reassign and replace that device.
There will be administrative intervention to resolve the matter or any incurring costs and accountability.
No, we can not eliminate textbooks immediately. However, through our curriculum renewal process teachers are continually researching digital content both complementary to and independent of textbook.
Yes. As of the start of the 2020-21 school year, Morgan, Eliot, and Joel have been redesigned and upgraded as mobile computing environments which includes a dense, robust, and reliable wireless network infrastructure.
We are in transition and are not ready to throw out books and paper. Our teachers do a great job and need time to transition to a different way of teaching and working. Students will be directed to specific, centralized printing locations based on the policies developed by each school.
As a Google Workspace for Education district, all teachers are provided resources and training in Google’s suite of tools.
Teachers will be accommodating as they always are.
The district plans to assume responsibility for the basic hardware warranty after the manufacturer's warranty expires and will maintain that warranty for the useful life of the device.
The Chromebooks are one of multiple tools that students will be using to support their learning. The Chromebook will contain pre-installed apps that students will need while working at school and home.
The students will have access to the CPS Chrome Web Store which will only provide apps approved and allowed by CPS. Only apps previously approved by CPS will be available for installation.
The Chromebooks remain property of CPS and will be managed as such. All web-filtering restrictions that exist within the school network will be applied to the device within all public and private home and commercial networks.
