Our students will still need counseling services from our counselors. Any student that has a history of abuse or suspected abuse must have wellness checks conducted weekly. Your counselors should be calling students to ensure their family situation is not intensified during the school closure. Other student groups should also be supported; if students were seeing the counselor for other issues, they need follow ups and wellness checks. All counselors would create a schedule to support the teachers with social and emotional learning activities. These can be scheduled so that teachers have a transition time. High school counselors will also be working on auditing their student records and working on endorsement and course review towards graduation.
Our CIS staff should be contacting our at-risk students who they have been supporting all year. They should be doing wellness checks weekly to ensure our students are still supported. Any students who are having an issue, the CIS staff should report immediately to the administration.
Your teaching staff will be working in their classrooms for the regularly scheduled school day. They need to design their activities with a direct instruction focus so that we can ensure students are being supported academically. The expectation is that they check on each student who may need assistance, answer emails, and support parents. They must interact with students daily and take attendance daily. Any student who is not engaged that day will be marked absent.
The campus administration’s role is also to monitor student participation through daily communication with the teachers. Teachers should keep a log of the students/parents they contact. See Instructional Technology Coordinators for access to logs.
Our instructional paraprofessional staff will be assigned groups of students to support identified small groups of students. Their schedules may be adjusted to support groups of students in the latter part of the day.
The Librarian should schedule classes in conjunction with the classroom teachers. The lessons should be tied to the ELAR TEKS and the Book of the Month. The Librarian should showcase student learning on social media for the district/school. School-wide activities around reading should be showcased. The Librarian should also be assigned a group of students to monitor and could be done through a book club. The Librarian should also assist with any technology issues and support the administration with identifying students who need technology equipment.
The Curriculum Coach should be assisting with teachers in the development of the I-LEARN@ HOME learning programs. They should be reviewing the activities that students are being provided and adding additional support. The CC should still follow up with teachers in need of assistance like they would on campus. The CC should ensure lesson plans are completed for the 9 weeks and that the pacing is being followed. The CC will use the Kick-Up tool to monitor instructional practices outlined in our Elementary Framework.
As we stated above, all AP’s will ensure that every student is working at home and that all teachers are checking on students. They should have a weekly log of staff interactions and are responsible for ensuring that their (PLC groups) are being supported and that all teachers are monitoring their students. They will also need to contact parents and ensure that any parent calls are answered within 24 hours. The AP’s will be on campus and will be monitoring instruction. Walkthroughs will be conducted remotely using the digital platform unless otherwise approved by the principal.
The Principal, as listed above, will ensure that all teachers in their oversight have been communicating with students and providing direct instruction. Any parent concerns or issues with work should be addressed immediately. Also, principals should identify teachers who would be willing to man the Remote Learning Helpdesk for students. The principal should schedule a weekly leadership meeting and check that all students are progressing in completing their at home learning work. They should also review the weekly attendance and contact any parents who have a pattern of non-engagement. The principal will also decide who can work on campus and at home from the support staff. All teachers are expected to be teaching in their classrooms except with approval from the HR Department. Walkthroughs will be conducted remotely using the digital platform.
