By law, teachers must adhere to Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students of disabilities. It is important for you to know your IEP students and their classroom and testing accommodations or modification.
If there are any students with an IEP in your classes, the student’s special education case manager will bring you a copy of the student’s accommodations. You will sign to show that you received the accommodations list. If you have any questions about the accommodations, please speak with the student’s case manager.
While each IEP is individualized to meet the student’s needs, there are some common accommodations that many students receive.
Many students receive read aloud and separate room/small group testing. Make sure you communicate with the special education co-teacher or paraprofessional ahead of time about when tests are scheduled. You want to make sure they will be there on testing days to provide those accommodations. (You can’t test two groups of students in two different rooms by yourself.)
The videos below will explain all the extension and programs that your SPED students will have access to as well as all students. If you want to know more about these SPED resources, contact Sean Mercer, SPED chair.
If you plan on incorporating these extensions in your instruction, it is recommended to demonstrate the program to your students. You will want to allow students time to practice using the extensions prior to having them complete the task. All of these extensions are already loaded on all school computers.
