COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Fundamentals of Management: This course provides exposure to the fundamentals of management. The text contains many leadership topics that will benefit students as well as provide them with some of the necessary skills needed to put into practice what they have learned during their time in JROTC. We are confident this course, coupled with what the cadets have already learned during their time in AFJROTC, will equip them with the qualities needed to serve in leadership positions in the corps. Throughout the text are many ethical dilemmas, case studies, and role play activities built into the lessons. These activities are based on real life experiences and will students the opportunity to practice what they learn by getting involved in discussions and expressing their opinions.
Course Objectives: After completing Communication, Awareness, and Leadership, the student will be able to:
Analyze management and its application to JROTC.
Analyze the elements of project management.
Evaluate the importance of formal planning within an organization.
Analyze decision-making within an organization.
Evaluate time management and change management within an organization.
Analyze concerns managers must consider in managing individuals and groups.
Analyze the factors that make work teams productive.
Evaluate the interpersonal skills of delegating, negotiating, and mentoring.
GRADING PROCEDURES:
Weekly Physical Training and Uniform Inspections: Weighted for final grade (see below)
Make up Exams: Required within three days (maximum) after an absence.
Make up Inspection: Uniform must be worn the day the cadet returns to school from an absence. There are no other uniform inspection make-ups. Please see the cadet handbook for uniform inspection make-up policy.
An unexcused absence on a scheduled Physical Training day will result in a grade of zero.
Absences (excused/unexcused): See the Burns High School policy regarding absences.
Special Projects will be assigned at the discretion of the instructor.

* HABITUAL NON-WEAR OF THE UNIFORM AND FAILURE TO MAINTAIN STANDARDS WILL RESULT IN A FAILING GRADE AND DISMISSAL FROM THE PROGRAM AS PER NORTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC INSTRUCTION POLICY.
