COURSE DESCRIPTION:
AS 300A Exploring Space: The Higher Frontier: This course aims to provide students an introduction to the history of astronomy, the solar system, space missions and exploration, along with the strategic significance of Space Programs.
Course Objectives: After completing the Survival: Survive, Return course, the student will:
1. Explain the history of astronomy throughout time.
2. Analyze the various elements of the solar system.
3. Investigate the components and current strategic plan for space exploration
4. Examine the history of space exploration and the future of space travel.
5. Discuss the role of space probes and robotics in space exploration.
6. Evaluate the science and technology required for space travel.
AS 300B Exploring Space: The Higher Frontier: This course aims to provide students an exploration of space stations, probes and robotics, space travel and national cyber security.
1. Explain the history future exploration.
2. Explore the different Space Probes and Robotics used in space.
3. Examine how orbit works along with traveling in space.
4. Experiment with different type of rockets and launch logistics
5. Discuss the foundations of Cyber Security.
6. Principles of Cybersecurity and Computer Basics
6. Understand the US Homeland security, strategy, and warfare.
GRADING PROCEDURES:
Weekly Physical Training and Uniform Inspections: Weighted for final grade (see below)
Make up Exams: Required within three days (maximum) after an absence.
Make up Inspection: Uniform must be worn the day the cadet returns to school from an absence. There are no other uniform inspection make-ups. Please see the cadet handbook for uniform inspection make-up policy.
An unexcused absence on a scheduled Physical Training day will result in a grade of zero.
Absences (excused/unexcused): See the Burns High School policy regarding absences.
Special Projects will be assigned at the discretion of the instructor.

* HABITUAL NON-WEAR OF THE UNIFORM AND FAILURE TO MAINTAIN STANDARDS WILL RESULT IN A FAILING GRADE AND DISMISSAL FROM THE PROGRAM AS PER NORTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC INSTRUCTION POLICY.
