Yes, no problem. ICEP offers classes starting from the beginner level.
Q: Do you teach Chinese using Pinyin in the classes? 🌸/🌻
At the Chinese Language Center, classes are taught primarily using Pinyin to make it easier for foreigners to learn.
The Pinyin system is the same as the one used in China, so students studying simplified characters can also progress smoothly.
Q: I don’t understand traditional characters at all. Is that okay? 🌸/🌻
Yes, it’s fine.
While classes use Pinyin and traditional characters, the textbooks also include simplified characters side by side, so those familiar with simplified characters can learn smoothly as well. Teachers will explain the differences between traditional and simplified characters, so there’s no need to worry.
Q: I understand there are some differences between Taiwanese Mandarin and Beijing Mandarin. Can I learn about those differences too? 🌸/🌻
The focus is primarily on Taiwanese Mandarin terminology, but when there are differences between Taiwanese Mandarin and Beijing Mandarin, we also explain Beijing Mandarin expressions and differences in simplified characters.
This creates an environment where you can learn through comparison.

Yes, classes are divided by level. Each class has around 10 people, with a maximum of 15.

Reading/Listening Test: An online test link will be sent before the course starts. Please complete it within the given time.
Oral Test: On the first day of class, there will be a test with the teacher.
Class division will be based on the results of the two tests.
If, after the class is assigned, you feel it doesn’t match your level, please consult the teacher in charge within two days. We will review it again.

Conversation Practice: Learn phrases and practical communication skills for daily life.
Listening: Practice listening to get accustomed to native speakers’ pronunciation and speed.

Vocabulary Building: Learn new words and expressions to expand your vocabulary.
Reading and Writing: Strengthen reading and writing skills with traditional Chinese texts and characters to deepen your understanding of Chinese characters.
Cultural class & Field trip & Self-funded trip
Q: What does the curriculum of the cultural classes cover? 🌸/🌻
Taught by professional instructors, the cultural classes will cover traditional cultural knowledge and offer hands-on experiences creating traditional arts, such as calligraphy, dough figurines, and seal carving.
Q: How are the weekly Wednesday Field trip conducted? 🌸/🌻
Taipei tours allow you to immerse yourself in real Taiwanese life while visiting famous tourist spots using the Taipei MRT (subway).
Taiwanese university student counselors guide the tours, offering lifestyle support, opportunities for Chinese language interaction, and shared sightseeing experiences.
Next year’s destinations are not yet decided, but past tours have included Taipei 101, Ximending, Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, Taiwan Museum, and Tamsui.
Q: Are the costs of the Wednesday Field trip self-funded? 🌸/🌻
All necessary transportation costs are covered by the transportation card (EasyCard), and ticket fees are included in the tuition.
However, personal expenses such as meals and shopping are at your own cost. If the balance on your transportation card runs out, you’ll need to recharge it yourself.
Note that the card must be returned at the end of the program, so please be careful not to lose it.
Q: What is the arrangement for self-funded trips? and how much does it cost?🌻
Leave Taipei city for an in-depth exploration trip.
The cost may vary depending on the itinerary and will not exceed 1,000 NTD.

Q: What specifically happens at the "Opening Ceremony" ? 🌸/🌻
The opening ceremony includes introductions of the teachers and counselors. Counselors will assist with lifestyle and various support needs throughout the program.
There will also be an overview of the classes and an explanation of the program’s rules.
Q: What specifically happens during "Group Time" ? 🌸/🌻
Group time involve each class presenting their achievements at the closing ceremony.
group time mainly consist of practice sessions with the teacher to prepare for the presentation. Presentation content varies by class but typically includes singing Chinese songs or performing skits to showcase what was learned in Chinese.
Q: When is "Free Time" ? 🌸/🌻
Weekdays: 17:00–22:30
Weekends: Until 22:30
※ A roll call is scheduled at 22:30, so please return to your accommodation by then.
Q: What specifically happens at the "Closing Ceremony" ? 🌸/🌻
The closing ceremony includes the awarding of completion certificates and class presentations of their achievements.
Afterward, group activities provide time to interact with counselors, exchange signatures, and take photos with participants. This is the final opportunity for interaction.

Each class is assigned one Taiwanese university student counselor to support the students.
During the program, they guide students to famous Taiwanese spots, offer language exchange opportunities outside of class time, and provide general support.
They also assist with registration on the first day and checkout procedures on the last day.
