In Social Studies, we will study the period of American history from 1800-1915. We look at the time period through the lens of different groups of people, including African Americans, Euro American men and women, Mexican Americans, Original/Native Americans, and Chinese Americans. We look at how people overcame adversity throughout this time period. We incorporate the strands of social studies (culture, economics, civics, geography, and contemporary applications) within the historical narrative as well as our problem-based learning activity, the Country Simulation.
The content that we cover can be labeled under the broad categories of:
Peoples of the West
Reform movements of the 1800s
Laws and Events leading up to the Civil War
Civil War
Reconstruction
Industrial Revolution
Immigration
Progressive Era
The time period we study is ripe with an opportunity to consider various perspectives and make connections to our lives and our world today.
We are living through a remarkable time period ripe with many opportunities for current event connections. We will ensure that students have a broad understanding of the basics of our government and some key points around media literacy. Those lessons will be woven into the curriculum so that students have some chances for application.
