FAQ

Q: When does each of the Groups rehearse?

A: Resonance rehearses during the 3B class period every day (every other day for students who are enrolled in Wind Ensemble/Chamber Choir), and Tuesday afternoons from 5-7pm starting in August. Ambience rehearses during the 1A class period every day (every other day for students who are enrolled in Symphonic Band), and Tuesday afternoons from 4-6pm starting in September. Emergence rehearses Monday evenings 4:30-6:30PM, and Tuesday evenings from 6:00-8:00PM starting in August. Echo show band rehearses Mondays and/or Tuesdays before school beginning in October.

Q: Why does it cost so much to participate in the show choirs, crew, and/or show band?

A: Donation costs are based on the actual costs of hotels, contest entry fees, transportation fees, and arrangement/music costs.

Q: Why don't we use money raised from Southwest Showdown to cover participation costs?

A: Simply put,….we do use Showdown money to cover the cost of participation….just not the way most families would think. It costs each student far more than $200 to participate if you factor in the costs of riser up-keep, microphone up-keep, construction of boxes, stairs, and other set items, and clinician costs. These sort of costs are covered by Showdown profits and we HAVE used money to purchase risers, folders, transportation, partially funding Choir Trips to Chicago (Wheaton, FAME Chicago/Nationals).

Q: Can I be in show choir if I am also in sports and other activities?

A: Yes, students are encouraged to participate in several activities at Lincoln Southwest. The expectation would be that students and families stay in contact with directors to let them know what is happening in that students schedule. It is the responsibility of the students to catch up on what was learned in their absence. If show choir rehearsal is the same time as another school activity split the time between the two practices. The biggest thing is to communicate effectively!
