The LSW Girls Soccer Program

Culture & Traditions

“What it comes down to is intense desire. To get this winning edge, you need to build an indomitable will. This means you must be relentless; you must never give up.”

Program Ethos

The phrase "Rise To Lift Others" has organically become the unofficial LSW Girls Soccer Program mantra and ethos. The phrase encapsulates the mindset and objective of all associated with the program that it is incumbent upon coaches, players, and staff to use our platform to help lift those up around us. LSW Girls Soccer seeks to foster strong relationships inside and outside of the program, celebrate the success of others, and build an inclusive environment that helps its Student-Athletes continue to grow as people and players.

Academic Excellence & Citizenship

The LSW Girls Soccer Program recognizes that current and prospective players are first and foremost STUDENT-Athletes. Success in the classroom is paramount if a player wants to see time on the field. Players are held to a high standard when it comes to Academics, Behavior, Attendance, and Character. In 2024, 44 Players received recognition as LPS Scholar Athletes, 20 received Academic All-Conference Honors, and 2 were Academic All-State Selections. If you want to see the field, you have to take care of business in the classroom.

Community Service & Engagement

Each year The LSW Girls Soccer Program teams up with LSW STAC (Students Together Against Cancer) to make tie blankets that are donated to patients receiving treatment at The Buffett Cancer Center in Omaha. This is a great way to give to those who are going through a difficult time in their lives and also build team camaraderie. Additionally, in previous seasons the program has also participated in the "Kicks for a Cure" charity match, which helps raise awareness and funds for Breast Cancer Awareness & Research. It is a great reminder that there are much bigger things going on in the world and that education-based athletics can make a bigger impact than just on the pitch.

Holistic Coaching & Player Development

Made up of coaches from all different backgrounds, ages, and experiences, The LSW Girls Soccer Program Coaching Staff strives to foster a holistic environment in which the player is seen as a person first and athlete second. The objective would be to meet the needs of the player (physical, mental, emotional, and psych-social) and use this information to continue to aid them in their short-term and long-term development as people and players. The LSW Coaching Staff is committed to being open, transparent, honest, and empathetic when communicating with players and parents. By creating a positive, inclusive, player-centered culture, we create success on and off the pitch.

Offseason/Preseason Strength & Conditioning

"Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn't work hard". All throughout the summer with SWAG (Southwest Athletic Girls) and into the Fall/Winter preseason, you will find a large number of LSW Girls Soccer Program Players continuing to build and improve in The LSW Weight Room. Players are expected to work hard, encourage one another, and hold teammates to a high standard in an effort to improve in all facets of the game.

Team Building Events & Camaraderie

Work Hard, Play Hard. After the work has been put in, there is no better way to continue to build a strong team culture than to partake in some fun team activities. Whether it is a team coloring competition at school, program-wide bowling, Coach Nettleton hosting a Movie Night in his backyard, or a team dinner, making sure we allow and foster program camaraderie and togetherness is essential to success.

Honoring Those Who've Made a Difference

Over the last few years, The LSW Girls Soccer Program has invited teachers from both LSW and schools previously attended by current players to Teacher Appreciation Night. This is an opportunity to say THANK YOU to a teacher who has made or continues to make a positive impact in the classroom on our Student-Athletes. In 2024, LSW teamed up with LSE to recognize a great group of teachers from LPS at their match out at Union Bank & Trust Field. The feedback and reaction to this new tradition has been overwhelmingly positive as teachers love seeing those they've helped in the classroom succeed on the pitch and players enjoy seeing their teachers in attendance at their matches. This event is here to stay for sure!

State Tournament Sendoff

One of the highlights for the program when qualifying for the postseason is seeing our supporters turnout for the State Tournament Sendoff. Family, Friends, Faculty, and Students gather at the NE corner of 14th & Pine Lake and cheer on the team as the bus passes by on the first leg of the trip up I-80 to Creighton's Morrison Stadium. Truly a special experience and one that we look forward to each season.

Collegiate Soccer Opportunities

The LSW Girls Soccer Program has a long track record of helping Student-Athletes pursue their goals of playing at the next level. A positive, competitive environment on the pitch, in the weight room, in training, and the classroom ensures that players are ready to tackle the challenges that education-based athletics provides. Players are encouraged to view pressure as a privilege and to look at every obstacle as an opportunity to grow. Whether it be JUCO, NAIA, NCAA Division I, II, or III, LSW will provide players with a platform to gain the exposure and experiences necessary in their athletic journey. Since its inception in 2003, The LSW Girls Soccer Program has gone on to see 22 players sign with NCAA Division I Programs.  It is an honor to help student athletes pursue their dreams.
