Our Coaches

Rachel Kunz

Head Coach

As a dance coach, I am passionate about helping dancers reach their highest potential by providing them with instruction, guidance, and encouragement while maintaining a supportive and safe environment. This is achieved through coaching with a growth mindset, positive reinforcement, and a strengths-based approach. I aim to empower dance team members to serve their school and community while I lead them to be unified as a team.

I believe that dance teams provide a community for individuals to grow their leadership skills, practice effective communication and teamwork, and develop grit.

Background

I am a 5th-grade general education teacher in LPS and an M.Ed. graduate student at UNL, earning an ELL endorsement and TESOL certification. I graduated from UNL with my bachelor's of science in Elementary Education in 2019, with minors in Leadership & Communication and International Studies. I'm also a studio dance instructor at Piccoli Dance Theatre, where I teach tap and jazz.

My studio dance background started at 4 years old. I was on each of my school's dance teams (elementary, middle, and high school). At Lincoln Lutheran, I was a four-year member of the Blue Angels dance team, where my team won State Dance titles all four years. I was a UDA All-American dancer and team captain my senior year, as well as a competitive dancer at the Anderson-Hoxie Dance Project. For coaching experience, I coached the LLMS Inspirations dance team for four years before moving to LSB.

Shelby Fisher - Assistant Coach

High school dance teams provide extremely important and valuable skills for students. Dancers from different studios are able to come together to provide school spirit for fans and share their love for the sport. I strive to coach dancers to be positive ambassadors for the school during and outside of performances by giving dancers opportunities to explore their strengths and step outside of their comfort zone. They are given a secure environment to better themselves as performers with support from coaches and teammates.

Background

I am currently a K-5 General Music Teacher in Lincoln Public Schools. I earned my Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in May 2023 with an endorsement in PK-12 General, Vocal, and Instrumental Music. Throughout my time at UNL, I participated in Big Red Singers, the university’s show choir.

I graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 2019 and was part of the Scottsbluff Drill Team. I was a two-year member, where we won state in Class B High Kick both years. We also participated in NDA Nationals in Orlando, Florida, each year. I was also a member of my high school’s competitive show choir, Choralaires, where we competed regionally.
