Cardboard, marker, and oil pastel
The "Line Fish" project included discussions on the parts of a fish and the simple shapes that can be used to replicate them as well as a review of different types of lines. Students were given cardboard shapes, glue, and oil pastels to assemble their fish and add line drawings on top.
Mixed Media
Students discussed the different parts needed to create a one-point perspective landscape. They were given creative freedom as to what type of landscape they created as long as it showed an understanding of one-point perspective.
Cardboard and paint
Students were introduced to the roles of a city planner and architect. We then looked at examples of artists who focus on city designs for their subject matter and artists who use cardboard for their medium. Students were tasked with drawing out a city plan then building their cities out of cardboard. Students could choose to collaborate with their table mate.
Oil pastel and tempera cake paint
Students were introduced to the artist Vincent Van Gogh with a close examination of his sunflower paintings. We then looked at pictures of real sunflowers and discussed the different parts of the flower. Students followed a guided drawing to create their sunflowers then outlined their drawings with oil pastels and finished them off with tempera cake paint.
