ABOUT PSNS & IMF

Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PSNS & IMF) provides our Navy with high quality, on-time maintenance, modernization, recycling and support that helps assure America's dominance at sea.

The Shipyard currently performs work in Bremerton, WA (Naval Base Kitsap – Bremerton); Silverdale, WA (Naval Base Kitsap – Bangor); Everett, WA (Naval Station Everett); San Diego, CA (Naval Air Station North Island); Yokosuka, Japan and Guam. The Northwest Regional Maintenance Center is one of the few regional organizations that provide maintenance for nearly every class of U.S. Navy vessel.

he Shipyard site at Naval Base Kitsap - Bremerton provides longer-term, full-service maintenance and inactivation /recycling work on surface ships and submarines utilizing six drydocks and adjacent piers.

The IMF site at Naval Base Kitsap - Bangor conducts operations on Delta Pier, consisting of refit piers, repair shops and a drydock for homeported submarines.

1) JUNIOR WORK STUDY PROGRAM (Student Trainee) - JUNIORS/11

2) HELPER TRAINEE PROGRAM - GRADUATING SENIORS/12

1) WORK STUDY PROGRAM/STUDENT TRAINEE (BUSINESS & INDUSTRY) - JUNIORS/GRADE 11 ONLY

Students must apply via USAJobs the spring of their Junior year and must be available to work FULL TIME throughout the summer earning GS-1 pay and benefits, then return to high school for first semester to fulfill their diploma requirements, then return to FULL TIME work at PSNS for the second semester of their senior year.

Required GPA to enter the program is 2.0. During the summer work period, Work-Study students will shadow numerous trades at PSNS. Following graduation from high school and successful completion of the program, students may be selected for a position in one of the trades. Most student trainees who successfully finish the PSNS Work Study program are offered a job at the WG-1 wage with Federal benefits upon high school graduation.

Introductory Industrial Trades Rotation Program designed for high school juniors on track to meet high school graduation requirements. The program is also open to post-secondary students enrolled in trades-related certificate or degree programs.

Must be 16 years old and on track to graduate with a minimum GPA of 2.0.

Full time work (40 hours per week) for the summer between your junior year and senior year and one semester of your senior year. Participants must complete at least 640 hours of work in an industrial environment at PSNS prior to graduation.

Work experience earns elective credits for your graduation requirement.

Starts at a GS-1. Those that complete the program may be offered a WG-1, helper trainee position. (visit www.opm.gov for pay information)
