COLLEGE GUIDANCE 12

In senior year, we move into more technical and practical application of our personal exploration during junior year. This is the nuts-and-bolts assembly of all we've worked to create. The detail- and labor-intensive process of applying to college carries us well into the winter. In the Spring, we talk more intentionally about the transition into college, into independence and responsibility.

IN-CLASS TOPICS INCLUDE...

College Application process review, tips, and tidbits
In-class work time in the computer lab on college apps, scholarships, essays, etc.
Meetings with the guidance counselor
Graded assignments that correlate directly and relevantly to college application process and requirements
Free application workshops with various local colleges -- Penn State network, Kutztown, Cairn, etc.
One fall college visit to area university
Making the transition into college life (various topics)
- - Financial literacy
  - Wise decision-making
  - Study habits
  - Dorm life and independence
  - And more!

2. PREPARE TO APPLY

KNOW YOUR DEADLINES

Request Letters of Recommendation: At LEAST 10 BUSINESS DAYS before deadline
Inform Guidance Office of Intent to Apply (In Applying List in SCOIR): At least 5 BUSINESS DAYS before deadline
Submit initial application: Ideally, 2-3 BUSINESS DAYS before deadline. Worst case scenario, day of (BEWARE TECH ISSUES AND WEBSITE CRASHING!)
