We will now begin using Track it Forward for tracking volunteer hours. Only hours that are logged through this platform will count towards your requirement. Through the your volunteer dashboard you can log hours, view your total hours submitted and milestone progress, sign up for events and more. It's super easy to get started and we already did most of the work for you! Follow these simple quick start steps to set your password and you're good to go.

Fill out your profile information
Click on Sign Up (again)
Download the App: You must create your account on the computer prior to signing into the app.
- Open the app store on your mobile phone
- Search for "Volunteer Time Tracking" or "Track it Forward"
- Download and install the app
- Login with your credentials
- Log Your Hours
- Login to Track it Forward
- Fill out your volunteer hour log
- Submit your time
Community Service at The City School
Community Service at The City School
Each year* students in grades 9-12 are asked to complete at least 25 hours of service to their community each year. Completion of these hours translates into academic credit, but the purpose goes way, way deeper than that.
Living Our Purpose At The City School, being a light to the city is our motto - Lux Urbi - and is a core commitment of our community. In our holy scripture, a stirring call to active faith occurs in Micah 6:8, a favorite passage here at TCS:
He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
To ACT justly and to LOVE mercy and
to WALK humbly[a] with your God.
A commitment to shalom, a complete and lasting peace, is not at all passive, but requires our enthusiastic participation and action. We encourage you to find your own niche, way of serving your community, that honors your unique God-given talents, gifts, ideas, perspectives, and experiences.
It's good for you! While, yes, it is also impressive on college applications, that is not the primary reason we serve. We pray that your hours of community service bring you great joy, deeper understandings, renewed hope, and a sense of purpose as you work. Serving others and taking action to "do justice" has proven to be good and even necessary for our mental and emotional health!

*Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020-2022, the community service requirement was suspended. In May 2022, we relaunched Faith in Action, with revised guidelines and processes, to better serve our community.

WHEN: Each school year plus the summers before and after. Students may opt to complete the year's hours in the preceding summer (June - Aug) or throughout the school year (Sept - June). Students in grades 9-11 may also make up hours in the following summer (June-Aug), but seniors must finish and submit their hours by the June they graduate.
WHERE: Serve with 1 or more non-profit/community organizations (see ideas below) or complete a self-designed service project. *This is unpaid work done specifically to benefit your community -- not simply unpaid work for a for-profit business (which is more like an internship!)

- Find open serving opportunities offered to TCS students
- Log and submit past, present, and future volunteer hours
- Write meaningful reflections for each opportunity
- Submit their hours for verification by The City School
- Note their progress towards their goal of 25 hours per year at The City School
- Receive/print certificates and hour records for resume writing, college/scholarship applications, enrichment programs, etc.

This is a self-designed service project intended to:
- builds awareness about a specific issue that YOU care about
- ethically and thoughtfully benefits others
- informs, encourages, and even involves peers in meaningful action
*This option is not to be considered "easier" than completing the hours in a more traditional sense., but it should give you a lot of freedom in how you complete the hours. Be sure to read ALL of the directions before committing to this as an option, and you should still expect to spend 25+ hours on this independent project over time.
