Join us in Denmark next year for the next international rewilding conference.

Now in its third edition, this conference marks a significant milestone for the series, and for the first time, it will be held outside of Britain. The inaugural and second conferences, hosted by Citizen Zoo in Cambridge in 2019 and 2025, helped shape a growing global community around rewilding practice, ideas, and collaboration.

In 2027, we look forward to welcoming over 600 delegates to Copenhagen, where the conference will expand in scale, ambition, and reach - bringing together practitioners, researchers, policymakers, and people from all walks of life, for what promises to be a defining moment for the rewilding movement.

A two-day summit of talks, panel discussions, activities, and workshops.

The conference will take place over two full days in Copenhagen, bringing together leading voices in rewilding from across science, practise, policy, land management, and the private sector. Across both days, participants will be able to attend a diverse programme of keynote talks, panel discussions, workshops, audience Q&As, and networking sessions focused on some of the most pivotal and fast-evolving issues in the field. The programme is designed to encourage not only knowledge sharing, but also collaboration, discussion, and new partnerships across disciplines and countries.

On the evening of the first day, delegates will also be invited to attend a special wine reception at one of Copenhagen’s most iconic venues, offering an opportunity to continue conversations and connect with fellow participants in a more informal setting.

Following the main conference, there will be an optional third day dedicated to visiting rewilding projects and restoration sites across Denmark, giving participants the opportunity to experience some of the country’s most exciting nature recovery initiatives firsthand.

Thursday Day 1

Across both days at the CPH Conference Center in DGI Byen, the conference will feature a dynamic programme of talks, lectures, workshops, panel discussions, and participatory activities exploring the most important and emerging topics in rewilding today.
The first day will end with a evening wine recption where participants can meet each other and network.

Friday Day 2

During both days, the programme will combine invited speakers from around the world who are at the forefront of rewilding research and practice, alongside participants selected through an open call for proposals, creating space for both established and emerging voices across the field.
Throughout the conference, multiple sessions and activities will run simultaneously across the venue, allowing attendees to engage with a broad range of themes, case studies, and discussions.

Saturday (Optional) Day 3

For those staying in Copenhagen over the weekend, an optional third day on Saturday will offer participants the opportunity to join guided visits to some of Denmark’s leading rewilding and nature restoration sites, including landscapes supported by the Hempel Foundation.
These excursions will provide a firsthand look at some of the country’s most ambitious ecological rewilding projects, offering insight into the practical realities, challenges, and opportunities of large-scale rewilding in Denmark.

Speakers and Programme

Our speakers for the 2027 rewilding conference will represent a wide and growing range of expertise, perspectives, and experience across rewilding community. We are actively working to confirm the full speaker programme, and while some contributors are already confirmed, the final line-up is still in development and may be subject to change, including last-minute adjustments where necessary. As such, no guarantees can be made that all listed speakers or organisations will remain unchanged ahead of the event.

A Commitment to Gender Inclusion

We are committed to fostering an inclusive and balanced conference. The speaker programme is being curated to ensure strong gender diversity and representation, including women, men, and non-binary colleagues across all parts of the agenda.

Join us at the world-renowned CPH Conference Center in the heart of downtown Copenhagen for the next international rewilding conference.

The centre is located in DGI Byen, Copenhagen’s former meatpacking district, now transformed into vibrant community spaces, cultural venues, and shops that locals particularly enjoy during warm and sunny days. Just behind the world-famous Tivoli Gardens and adjacent to Copenhagen Central Station, the venue features some of the city’s most respected environmental credentials, with state-of-the-art facilities for speakers and participants, as well as a communal canteen where conference guests can enjoy locally sourced, seasonally prepared meals each day.

At Citizen Zoo, we are working to create a world filled with wildlife. A world filled with the full spectrum of diversity, beauty, and abundance in nature. We realise this mission by restoring habitats back to their functional states, reintroducing species to their former ranges, and empowering people and communities to take action in protecting their local nature. We’re an organisation dedicated to rewilding, made up of a passionate team and volunteers around the country working to restore nature and help species and habitats thrive.

For the 2027 conference, we are proud to be partnering with the Hempel Foundation, a Danish philanthropic organisation that has become one of the leading voices supporting rewilding in Denmark and across Europe. Through ambitious initiatives such as Saksfjed Wilderness and the recently launched “The Wilderness” programme, the Foundation is investing in large-scale nature restoration, research, education, and public engagement to help accelerate biodiversity recovery and expand wild nature across Denmark.

Together, we share a belief that restoring nature requires collaboration across science, practice, policy, culture, and community. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to advancing rewilding as both an ecological necessity and a hopeful vision for the future. We are also grateful to the wider rewilding and conservation community whose continued support has helped this conference grow into an international gathering for practitioners, researchers, land managers, NGOs, policymakers, and the public.
