CAS Coordinator -- Mr. Ace Pierra
CAS is at the heart of the Diploma Programme. It is organized around the three strands of creativity, activity and service defined as follows:
Creativity—exploring and extending ideas leading to an original or interpretive product or performance
Activity—physical exertion contributing to a healthy lifestyle
Service—collaborative and reciprocal engagement with the community in response to an authentic need
Successful completion of CAS is a requirement for the award of the IB Diploma. While not formally assessed, students reflect on their CAS experiences and provide evidence in their CAS portfolios of achieving the seven learning outcomes.
The CAS programme formally begins at the start of the Diploma Programme and continues regularly, ideally on a weekly basis, for at least 18 months with a reasonable balance between creativity, activity, and service.
All CAS students are expected to maintain and complete a CAS portfolio as evidence of their engagement with CAS. The CAS portfolio is a collection of evidence that showcases CAS experiences and for student reflections; it is not formally assessed.
Dear G11 and G12 students,
This is a good source of information about Creativity, Activity and Service.
PLEASE do not forget to create your own CAS website. This is where you put all the evidence (photos, videos), documentations, and reflections of ALL your CAS experiences. We are aware of the challenges that we may encounter with this new learning set up but it doesn't mean we cannot do CAS. We will meet again soon and see how we can work on our CAS program. Over the summer, I’ve been attending online conferences about online CAS. This helped me alot in gearing our CAS and service learning program this school year.
Your Homeroom Adviser will serve as your CAS adviser. They will help me monitor, check and follow up your accomplishments with the CAS requirements.
As an IB world school, here’s a link on how the IB Learner Profile can help students during Covid 19.
Enjoy!

CAS Website (portfolio)
There are other forms of CAS portfolio but CIS require all evidences to be documented thru a website. Here are some examples;

This website is a vital source of information about your accomplishments during your IB years. This will help you alot when you apply to universities.
What should we see in your website?
Short introduction about yourself. Clearly specify your interest in life, what you are passionate about as this may determine the direction and nature of your CAS involvement.
Evidence/ Proof that you are personally involved. This can be photos, photos in action, videos, voice recordings etc.
Demonstrate resilience during this time of pandemic that even online you can still do CAS.

Local CAS Experiences
Update your friends everyday with the latest COVID 19 cases. This can be done by sharing and updating your social media friends about current data on COVID 19. Information can be taken from:
https://www.facebook.com/DOH7govph (Cebu)
https://www.facebook.com/OfficialDOHgov (Entire Philippines)
https://ourworldindata.org/coronavirus (World data)
Create awareness video about Covid 19
This can be done individually or by group. Here’s an example; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdj9JeluBhA
A localized version designed for Cebu people is also good. Make sure we follow WHO and DOH guidelines. You can start an online “Challenge”, like how to keep your hands clean. Here’s an example made by the Rivera Family. https://www.facebook.com/623891462/videos/10157304703121463/
There are so many ways on how you can do CAS online. If you have some in mind, please follow this procedure.
Propose the CAS idea to the CAS coordinator (apierra@cis.edu.ph) and to your CAS adviser. Wait for the approval before starting it. Some proposals might need approval from the school admin. This is to avoid misrepresentation of school in the online platform.
CAS done without PROPER approval will not be credited as a CAS experience. Might as well, attention will be called in case the CAS experience will cause online controversy, fuss or miscommunication. This is a good avenue to showcase online etiquette and responsible global citizenship.
