Curatorial Rationale
The theme I have decided for my artworks is to focus on Nature. I've grown up surrounded by trees, mountains and flowers. I have always been fascinated by them, I love just sitting around and watching the sunset. While listening to the wind blow and as well as the birds chirp. My family and I travel lots in Japan. We would go into the provinces and there we would see lots of beautiful hidden gems. There is just something really calming being able to watch and admire what mother nature has created. One of my most favorite seasons to admire and picture is the spring season. This is the season where the Sakuras would bloom and it is just one of the best sights to see.
I was inspired to focus my artworks on Nature, to show everyone how beautiful our Earth really is. Not only that, but I do want people to see the hidden gems there are around our community. The art styles I've used are mainly forced on digital artwork. I decided that I wanted the image to speak for itself, to show how beautiful the surroundings really are. The photographs were all taken every time my family and I would travel to the provinces. My artworks are also a way for me to express my journeys throughout my life. Visiting new places to document and as well as to share to different people the beautiful views there are to someday visit. I have photographed and digitally drawn different places from Japan and the Philippines. These are such as the ‘Ghost Town’, a little shopping district found near my home in Japan. An image of the beautiful and famously known Mt, Fuji, and many others as well. Nature will always be an interest for me, I still wish to someday travel around more and find more beautiful hidden spots to share with everyone. My art styles may be simple but I want to give a big impact to everyone to see how beautiful our environment really is. In the exhibition space, I showed first the Ghost Town, Hot Spring in the province, Mt. Fuji in Spring, Autumn in Japan and lastly Hidden Gems of Cebu. I chose this order because it can indicate the places I love the most.
Ghost Town
Digital, 1156 x 1158
This drawn image is a real location in Tokyo Japan. This area is usually busy in the morning and in the afternoon. Though sometimes there are occasions where there are no people. Especially now during the Coronavirus Pandemic “Yanaka Ginza” the name of this shopping district has lessened its population and has started to feel like a “Ghost Town”. Just like from animations this area would feel like an area that could be occupied by other “creatures”. Comparing the time before the pandemic and after the pandemic there is an eerie feeling while walking through an empty shopping district.
Hot Spring in the Province
Digital, 3024 × 4032
This drawn image was taken in a province in Japan. Everytime my family and I would visit Japan, we would always go to a hotsprings to relax and unwind. This drawn image was from the hot springs, just looking at the Japanese style buildings surrounded by these beautiful trees and plants was something I wanted to add in my exhibit. The rustic, japanese style buildings just match really well with how the landscaping of the area was. This was also taken during the fall season and just the fallen leaves surrounding the area give a really nice and ambient surrounding.
Mt. Fuji In Spring
Digital, Photograph, 1164 x 1156
Every year during our summer vacation my family and I would travel to Japan. Once in a while we would travel to visit our grandfather's grave and during those times it would most likely be during spring where the Sakura trees or the Cherry blossoms would start blooming. Every time we travel to Japan, one of the most awaited views that every tourist would love to see is Mount Fuji. The contrast between the beautiful colors of the blooming Sakura trees to the magnificent colors and shape of Mount Fuji just gives anyone a relaxing and enjoyable experience when visiting Japan.
Autumn In Japan
Digital, Photograph, 1242 × 1641
Every time my Family and I would travel to Japan, my father would always find different kinds of hot springs. We would go to different prefectures around Japan and experience different hotsprings. This image specifically was from a hot spring in Japan. This place was surrounded by rivers, and very pretty trees. During the time we were here it was during Autumn. During this season, there are specific trees called ‘Momiji’ which means the maple leaves of red in the fall in english. Which is a sign of the beginning of Autumn in Japan. There is a beautiful contrast between the colors of the leaves, and as well as the flowing river. Just being able to be surrounded by this just gives people a calming and relaxing time.
Hidden Gems of Cebu
Digital, Photograph, 1125 × 1125
There are many hidden spots around Cebu, but one of the best spots I’ve discovered is the waterfall found in the south of Cebu, Alcoy. As a family who loves to travel around, we were able to find this gen by going to the province. The ambiance of this place is just very relaxing and is a place where anyone would love to take in nature and also take pictures of the view. The natural lighting coming from the sun makes the water coming down the waterfall shine as bright as a diamond. It is just so amazing that there are still places such as these that are so beautiful.
