The overall theme of my artworks are personal emotion from the emotion that is well reflected in people to the emotion that people don’t want to come up to others. By showing our own emotion, it improves the ability to connect with self and others leading to healthier and happier relationships. Furthermore, the limitation of expressing emotions can indicate emotional detachment or the presence of mental health. The goal of this theme is to make the audience aware that every person in the world has a variety of emotions and is free to express them.
The chosen works are “Appearances” and “Passionelly”. These artworks shows the emotions, passion, and struggles we face in everyday life. Appearance is defined as what way someone or something looks like. From the time society is structured until now, society applied pressure on an object’s and especially on the appearance of a person. There is a certain expectation in society as of recent that if you are not pretty or have nice things you are not as good as someone else and that is everywhere. This artwork was created with colored pencil on a 17 x 12 inch drawing paper. The goal of this artwork was to apply my experience and emotion that I felt when I get pressure from the society on my hair style and clothing. To communicate with the audience on my experience, I illustrated mixed and complex emotion by using various colors. My second artwork, “Passionelly”, is a experimentation on the genre of surrealism. The shining pisces falling off from the volleyball player represents the passion. No matter how big or small the task is, people pour out their passion to finish the task and when these passions come together, it makes the people to reach their top. The way people pour their passion to reach their top gave me the image of a volleyball player who jumps as high as possible to score points with spikes. To paint the image, I created this artwork on a 18 x 26 inch canvas. In the consideration of the material, because the genre that I wanted to experiment with is surrealism, I painted with acrylic paints that I like to use. To exaggerate the style of surrealism, I used holographic masking to express that work done with passion remains where people have passed.
