Personal Statement and Reference
The Personal Statement needs to show true passion and dedication to the course – how have you started your learning in this area?
Reference: Teacher input is important, but it is a collaborative letter compiled by your counselor on behalf of CIS as a whole.
85-90% ACADEMIC IN FOCUS
**Note 1: Super-curricular exploration is important. This means deepening your understanding of the subject through extended reading, participating in lectures etc.
**Note 2: Extra-curricular activities are valued, however the student is usually accepted based on his or her grades and suitability for the course. This is the remaining 10% only!
Projected Grades
See the CIS Projected Grades Policy
Counselors will enter projected grades and reference directly in UCAS
UCAS Vocabulary –
Foundation Course: This is a foundation year for students who need the extra preparation prior to starting university (often due to lower academic standing, missing requirements, English-language ability, etc.).
Conditional versus Unconditional Offer: Conditional is based on the predicted scores. Your entry into the course is pending your final IB results in July. Upon meeting the conditions set, you will receive an unconditional offer.
Firm Choice vs Insurance Choice
Firm: this is your first choice – the place you most want to go to. If you accept a conditional offer and meet the conditions, you’ll have a confirmed place here.
Insurance: this is the choice you’d want if you didn't meet the conditions of your firm choice. If this is a conditional offer, you’d need to meet the conditions for your place to be confirmed.
Extra and Clearing: In general, this affects you if you do not meet the conditions required for the universities you have chosen. This occurs in August when the universities determine actual enrollment in each course.
