The Iranian Hostage Crisis
Dear delegates,
Welcome to Walnut! I'm an Iranian sophmore at Walnut and have been doing Model UN since 7th grade. Outside of Model UN I am the operations manager for the MSA, do JETs, and am part of programming club. I also do water polo and track. Outside of school in general you could find me dissasembling my laptop, desigining something for my 3D printer, or trying to learn more about electronics. In the future I hope to be an electrical engineer at a Silicon Valley company like Apple.
The Iranian Hostage crisis was when a group of radical Iranian students held 66 American diplomats hostage in the American Embassy. This was after the Iranian Revolution, when the West controlled monarchy was replaced with the anti-western Islamic Republic of Iran, with Ayatollah Khomeini as the leader. This revolution and the wests previous wrong-doings against Iran is what caused this horrific 444 days.
As an Iranian, our goal with this committee is to make sure that both sides of this issue are seen, and that delegates are able to broaden their horizons in regards to Iran and the Middle East. My advice to delegates would be to look into how the current conflicts and tensions between America and Iran today all stem from this, and why that is. I'd also recommend watching the movie Argo as it provides an interesting look into Americas operations.
