Acharya Narendra Dev College has played a very special and a crucial role in my life. Being my first job as Lecturer in Physics, it gave me a big platform to explore my academic potential and provided wings for my creative activities. The company of young and vibrant students is always to cherish. I polished my physics teaching and other academic credentials with equally young staff (both taching and non teaching) to begin with. Words will always be less to express my feelings and to describe the time I spend at ANDC with my lifelong friends. Everyone of them is special to me. The love given to me by everyone at the college is emence and I am thankful to the almigty for giveing me the opportunity to serve the college for almost twenty years starting from 17 July 1995.
Pictures shown below are cherished memories. I will keep adding more photographs.....
In 2015, I submited this for college magzine
ANDC Memory Lane: A life full of colors
Twenty years ago, as 25-year young fresh graduate I appeared in an interview for the post of lecturer in Physics at Acharya Narendra Dev College. My family members still considered me to young to teach college students. No wonder job was offered, taken and I landed straight into the class on 17th July 1995. The class, full of 70 fresher’s admitted to B.Sc. (General) Computer Science did not even realized that one among them is actually their teacher. I really have to prove this by showing attendance register and chalk & duster in my hand to make them to come to order in the class. And the journey begins. Within a few months I was assigned a task of organizing ANDC Intra-college Cricket Tournament. Being a cricket lover it was a wish coming true for me. Next day notice was put up, inviting teams to participate. No wonder again, more than 12 teams were ready to take up the show. However, for me the surprise was in store when I interacted with teams. The students told me they play cricket with tennis ball. I simply refused them, if cricket has to be played it has to be real. No one at college level shall play street cricket. Soon most of them agreed to play cricket with real cricket ball but wanted all other gadgets as well. The college principal, Dr. A.S. Kukla was approached and he agreed. I purchased all the new cricket gadgets (Bat, Ball, Wickets, Pads, Caps and what not). The ground was specially made ready with help of students and non-teaching staff. The pitch was well prepared. Finally the day arrived and ANDC had its first red ball cricket match on their own ground. I enjoyed it live in the field being one of the umpires. That day I realized learning is not restricted only to classrooms. Students from different courses became my friend. Since then every year the extravaganza of cricket tournament is followed till date. This pleases me more. Organizing various events, shall not be mistaken for that I was not doing my primary job of teaching to the best of my capabilities. In my classes, I always give full freedom to every student to ask anything what they want to know. I am continuing this practice till date. Many students sometime really use this freedom to challenge me. One day a student of B.Sc. (Hons) Physics (I don’t remember the year) raised hand to ask something. I politely agreed. He made the following preamble before the question. “Sir, I have asked this question to my physics teacher in school, my physics teacher in my coaching classes and what not. Nobody has yet answered this question.” I must admit, listening all this, within few seconds I prepared myself for a really tough question directed at me. However, to my pleasure, I knew the answer of the question asked. I gently asked the student to sit down and attend the continuing class and told him, his question will answered in the next class. The moment I left the class, I could overhear, he was telling others that I don’t know the answer. In the next class, the boy was eagerly waiting for me with others to have fun in the class. Point blank, I started the class by answering his question to best of his satisfaction. He smiled and that was really for me. I loved it and students enjoyed it. Most amazing thing happened with me when I was returning from Bangalore in 2012 by Air India flight. My wife and son (10 years old at that time) were with me. When coming out of flight at Delhi Airport, the Pilot of the flight coming out of his cabin saw me and said hello and touched my feet. My family and myself were surprised. He said, Sir you may not recognize me but I was a student of Botany (Hons) from ANDC and you organized first cricket tournament for us. I was very happy on this recognition and my family was equally pleased. This really made my day. There are so many wonderful incidents, which I can keep writing about twenty wonderful years of my life which I had spent at ANDC. I would like to end this with following words: “My life was a sketch, ANDC added colors to it.” Thank you everyone @andc for being so good to me all the time.
