In order for teachers to understand their professional lives and work, they need to understand the formative experiences and influences that shape their perspectives and practices, and while there is a commonality associated with being a teacher and working in schools, there are degrees of differences, even within one school district, in the manner in which teachers’ work is defined and takes place. The context of teaching includes anything in the surrounding environment: physical, social, institutional and personal, that influences teaching and learning.Â
