Helpful Hints for a successful transition to CHIME
Get Ready:
-At home, talk often about going to school and how fun and exciting it will be.
-Talk to your child about what to expect during the school day (recess, playtime, snack, lunch, friends, learning, etc.).
-Visit CHIME, walk your child around so that they get familiar with their new school.
-Talk about your family's drop off and pick up procedures.
-Remind your child that he/she is a "big kid" now and reassure them that they are ready for school.
Saying Goodbye:
-Quick goodbyes are always best.
-Talk about drop off and pick up procedures before the first day.
-Give reminders about what to expect.
-Say goodbye at the end of the pledge.
-Allow your child to walk with their class on their own.
-Remember, crying and a few tears are normal and may happen, IT IS OKAY.
-Parents should keep their crying and tears for the car ride home and at school, try to control emotions. Your child may sense something is wrong and this could make the transition more difficult. Short, sweet goodbyes are key.
