Hello parents & students of Norton Elementary School,
My name is Michael Devine and I am the new Physical Education Teacher! This is my first year here in Cheshire, but I am very familiar with the town and the great public school education that it has. I was fortunate enough to attend Norton School as an elementary student. I went to Dodd and also graduated from Cheshire High School in 2010. After high school I attended Eastern Connecticut State University where I received my Bachelor's degree in Health & Physical Education. Since then I have also completed my Master's degree in Athletic Administration at Concordia University.
I have been teaching now for seven years. I started my career in Stafford Public Schools, where I taught both Health and Physical Education at the high school level for five years. After that spent two years at Waterbury Arts Magnet School where I was teaching Health & PE to both middle school and high school students. I am excited to continue my career here in Cheshire.
I firmly believe that Physical Education is not "organized recess". As a professional educator, I will present activities in a positive and professional manner. My goal is to help maximize my students self-esteem, self-confidence and have them be independent learners and great community members. My students will learn that physical fitness is crucial for maintaining a healthy lifestyle, not only now but for the rest of their lives.
I currently live in West Hartford, CT with my finance Jenna. I am also the Head Lacrosse Coach at Cheshire High School.
Cheshire Public Schools has molded me into the person I am today, I have had tremendous experiences & memories here at Norton School and hope to make those same memories for your student!
