Teaching

I teach the following courses in a variety of formats (the links take you to the most recent syllabus):

• GS104, General Science: Physics, a physics course for non-science majors

• PH201, PH202, and PH203, General Physics, an algebra-based introductory physics sequence

• PH214,  PH215, and PH216, combined labs for algebra-based and calculus-based physics (I am not teaching these during the 2026-2027 academic year)

Why Study Physics?

You might take a physics class for one of these reasons:

• You are curious about the fundamental behavior of nature or maybe even want to become a physics major.

• You need to complete the course(s) to fulfill requirements to enter graduate school. Typical destinations for those who complete the PH201 series include physical therapy and veterinary colleges.

• You need to complete the course(s) to fulfill degree or major requirements. 

How I Became a Physics Instructor at Chemeketa

I was born and raised in Salem. I took some computer classes at Chemeketa during high school. I took my first physics class at Chemeketa, loved it, and kept at it until I earned my master's degree at Oregon State.  I took various jobs such as server, painter, hotel worker, and teaching assistant along the way. While still in graduate school, the unexpected opportunity to teach at Chemeketa arose. And I was lucky enough to get the job. I thoroughly enjoy working here and I plan to keep this job until I retire.  For more details, see my CV.
