Carusi 6th Grade Music Exploratory
Mr. Hunt Jhunt@chclc.org
Piano(%40)
The main portion of this class will be learning to play the piano. In the classroom are 28 pianos with many different capabilities. We will spend some time every class period learning about how to use the pianos, reading notation, and proper piano technique. Students will be graded on how many levels of piano skill they can pass. All of the seven levels of music are on the music exploratory website. Practicing home is encourage, but NOT expected as students will have time to practice during class.

Music Theory Quiz(%20)
During class periods, there will be several lessons about music theory that are taught in conjunction with learning how to play the piano. At the end of the class, students will take an short online test to assess their knowledge of the skills. This grade does not have anything to do with actually playing the piano.
Journal (%20)
We will also listen to, discuss, analyze, and compare a piece of music using a journal during every class period. This will account for current events as well as several cross curricular ELA goals within Carusi.
Listening Assignment (%20)
Instead of giving homework, the students will have one
assignment to complete on their own. Using very little class time and time on their own, students will become familiar with 18 artists and songs that represent a mix of music in our culture. At the end of the quintile, students will be tested on their ability to identify these pieces of music and artists. In order to access the music, check out the "Listening assignment" Link at the top!
