Willkommen!
is our partner school in Bavaria. It's not quite *in* Munich, but it is literally 4 short local-train-stops from it (10 minutes or so), so it's also not much of an exaggeration to say that it is in Munich!
We had a great hosting experience March 27 - April 6. We look forward to completing the exchange this summer - the travel experience is not school-sponsored, but it could not happen without the successful hosting experience!
NOTE: due to budgetary complications on the German site, they will visiting us in February or mid-March 2025. Travel (reminder: not a school-sponsored field trip) will take place in the summer, shortly after graduation. Accommodations for a shorter trip for athletes/camp-goers/whatever situation *CAN* be made and planned-for if known in advance.
Anyone at East can apply to host, whether you take German or not. Unsure about things, about whether this is for you? Get a good friend to apply with you! That way you have the support of a friend and, if you decide you want to travel the following summer, someone that you already know. Students have a great time no matter what, and become good friends with several of the fellow travelers from East.
Questions? -- You can reach the German teacher, Herr Graff, any time in C115, or by sending him an email at agraff@chclc.org. There will be an informal question session during LBs and several web meets offered.
Parents: Would you like to read testimonials from parents who hosted in Spring 2023? Please click here and scroll to the bottom of the page.
Need another reason to host? Taking part in a GAPP Exchange looks very positive on a college application. It shows that you are open-minded, willing to step outside of your comfort-zone, have strong interpersonal skills (or that you worked on them!)

Like our other partner school, the Humboldtschule, the Gymnasium Puchheim has a similar/comparable academic climate to East. East has had 2.5 successful exchanges with this school: 2015-6, 2017-18, 2019...then COVID dashed our plans to complete that exchange.
Requirements to host:
1) Be open to new experiences. (Family and student.)
1b) Student: No substantial discipline issues, and a teacher reference.
2) Have a bed to offer the exchange student. (The time they are here is short - you don't need a guest room, just someone who is willing to give up their bed for a couch or an air mattress for 10-12 days.)
3) Be willing to meet in the evening once in early September to meet the other CHE parents and students who are taking part. This makes the hosting experience a lot easier!!
4) Keep in communication with Herr Graff and especially other parents -- express your wants, needs (especially when work/life/other factors require your attention), and also when you might be able to "entertain" a few extra people at your place, especially on a school night.
