The road to the NCHSAA State Championship is entirely performance-driven based on your ranking against other athletes. There are no fixed qualifying standards. Every mark must be Fully Automatic Timing (FAT).
❄️ Indoor Track & Field (Winter)
To qualify for the Indoor State Championship meet, an athlete or relay team must finish the season ranked in the Top 12 across the entire state for their classification.
Individual Events: Top 12 marks qualify.
Relays: Top 12 teams qualify.
Note: All running times must be Fully Automatic Timing (FAT). Hand-held times are not accepted.
To qualify for the outdoor regional meet, an athlete must be ranked in the top 16 in our specific region by the entry deadline. The top performers at the regional meet then advance to the state championships.
Maximum Entries: Each school can enter up to 3 athletes per event, but only the top 16 overall entrants in the region make the cut.
Advancing to States (Automatic): The top 4 finishers in each event at our Central Regional meet automatically qualify for the State Championship Meet.
Advancing to States (Wildcard): The next 4 best times/marks across all three regions combined (East, Central, and West) who finished outside the top 4 will receive a wildcard bid to the State meet.
Note: Ties at the 16th spot may expand the field up to a maximum of 24 athletes.
