Course Selection

Honors and AP courses

Students at CHS self-select which courses they would like to enroll in each year. AIG students are encouraged to take honors level courses and AP courses. The following is a list of AP courses offered during the 2018-2019 academic year by subject:

Science: Environmental Studies, Chemistry, Biology,
Math: Statistics, Calculus AB, Calculus BC
English: English Language and Composition, Literature
Social Studies: World History, Comparative Government and Politics, American History, Psychology
World Languages: French, Spanish

Acceleration via College Courses

University of North Carolina

Chapel Hill

If a high school student within CHCCS has exhausted the curriculum offered at their school, they are eligible to enroll in college courses during the school day. Most students who fit this acceleration option take mathematics courses at UNC- Chapel Hill due to the geographic proximity.

Durham Technical

Community College

The Career and College Promise (CCP) program at Durham Tech provides seamless dual enrollment educational opportunities for eligible North Carolina high school students in order to accelerate completion of college certificates, diplomas, and associate degrees that lead to college transfer or provide entry-level job skills.

The Duke University Talent Identification Program (Duke TIP) is a nonprofit organization that has served over 2.8 million academically talented students in grades four through twelve since 1980. Each year, Duke TIP enrolls nearly one hundred thousand new students in its talent searches. TIP's talent searches help these gifted students assess the extent of their abilities with above-level testing, recognize them for their achievements, and provide them with a variety of enrichment benefits.
