South Carolina provides direct support to students pursuing higher education through a number of need-based and merit-based scholarships and grants, however you must prove residency in the state of South Carolina to apply for state-funded financial aid. For specific information on residency requirements, visit the SC Residency Information page.
Students do not need to "apply" for state scholarships. An application will need to be submitted for Palmetto Fellows eligible students through the Counseling office. These scholarships are also "last dollar scholarships," meaning they pay up to a certain amount after other scholarships are awarded to meet the remaining balance on a student's financial aid bill. Please see most current award amounts below:
Palmetto Fellows: up to $6,700 during Freshman year, up to $7,500 during Sophomore, Junior, and Senior years; Students who major in an eligible math or science program are eligible for up to $10,000 during their Sophomore, Junior, and Senior years
LIFE: for students attending 2- or 4-year institutions; up to $4,700 with $300 book allowance; Students who major in an eligible math or science program are eligible for up to $7,500 during their Sophomore, Junior, and Senior years (4-year institutions only)
