Talk Read Talk Write is a routine that teachers can use to make texts more accessible through academic conversations with the end goal of having students write about the text.
Learn how to help multilingual learners use word-to-word bilingual dictionaries as a powerful academic support tool. Discover practical strategies for teaching students how to use dictionaries strategically during instruction and assessments, verify translations using context, and build deeper understanding across content areas-while supporting appropriate use of dictionaries during standardized assessments. Participants will leave with strategies and resources that help MLs use bilingual dictionaries to increase independence, comprehension, and confidence with grade-level text.
Examine student English Language Proficiency (ELP) data by mapping students’ proficiency levels using the Can Do Descriptor chart. Teachers will identify and analyze accommodations outlined in students’ Individual Language Acquisition Plans (ILAPs) and explore how these supports impact instruction and assessment. Using the Can Do Descriptors and ILAP accommodations, participants will develop an instructional plan that supports language development while providing equitable access to grade-level content.
This presentation will help school staff understand key roles and responsibilities of the MSA/TA including ways they can support classroom teachers and multilingual learners and how to efficiently schedule them.
