Bath Time is Math Time is a customizable 8-week parent/guardian program to encourage families of young learners to have fun reinforcing math and STEM skills at home. We suggest families build on their bathtime routine by adding water-friendly games related to PreK and K standards for math and scientific inquiry. Each week, families receive free math and STEM materials to use at home and report back on their experiences using the materials the following week. This program can be offered to ML and English-speaking families and is suggested as a family-based support for students showing high-risk or some-risk on their early Math Fastbridge assessments.
Latino Family Literacy Project is a multi-week program to promote a love of reading through bilingual, culturally relevant books around universal themes. Parents and guardians learn strategies to build and sustain a fun, effective reading routine at home. Participants receive a bilingual book for each session they attend. Programs are available for PreK-1st grade or 2nd-5th grade and can be offered virtually or in person.
"A New Sun" is a tailored program designed to build the emotional wellbeing for newcomer ML students from Kindergarten through 12th grade. Offered in collaboration with school counselors, this program targets selected students and provides guidance in their native language. Parents play an integral role throughout, participating in an initial orientation, a mid-program review, and a closing session, ensuring they stay connected to their child's growth and progress.
Parents and caregivers who immigrate to the United States bring with them a wealth of parenting strengths—drawing on culture, tradition, and family experience—yet living in a new setting can be challenging. Parenting in America encourages parents to honor their cultural heritage while also helping them to develop new culturally responsive practices and strategies. Parents graduate from the program feeling empowered to face immigration challenges that affect them as individuals and as parents, recognizing that their key to success already lies within them.
Developed in partnership with the California Reading and Literature Project, the Family Literacy Program introduces the five elements of literacy equipping families with strategies to support literacy at home. Families are introduced to Dr. Shefelbine’s Literacy Framework of Skills with fun, interactive and purposeful reading strategies. Reading development is emphasized with a direct connection to student’s overall academic success.
Parents are provided support, tools, and skills to help their students prepare for the future and stay on track for a career.
