Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are structured training programs that combine practical work experience with formal learning. These initiatives are designed to provide individuals with hands-on skills and knowledge in a specific industry or occupation. Apprenticeships are available across various sectors, including but not limited to construction, healthcare, IT, and manufacturing. Apprenticeships can last from one to five years, depending on the level and industry. Apprentices receive a salary for their work during the training period, allowing them to earn money while gaining valuable experience.

If you want to go to university

Apprenticeships vary in the type of qualification you will receive on completion. Many apprentices go on to university or higher level apprenticeships (undergraduate degree equivalent) post-18, however is advised you check which qualification you will receive against typical entry requirements, to ensure that you are able to pursue Higher Education.

If you're not sure what you want to do

Apprenticeships are a good way to get on-the-job experience within an industry, so that you can see first-hand what aspects of 'work life' you most enjoy. It is also a good way of getting vital work experience so that you can pursue other jobs. However, apprenticeships tend to be trade specific, so be sure you are selecting and apprenticeship in the industry you'd like to work.

Applying and preparing for an apprenticeship

You can often apply directly with the employer, or alternatively with the course provider. If your application is successful, you will then be called for an interview. It is important you conduct yourself professionally to ensure that you have the best chance of receiving the job.
