CTC Field Trip

Peep into the Future

Our Chaffee Jr. High students were invited to attend a field trip to tour the CTC campus and classes. CTC, which stands for Career and Technology Center, is a local two year college that our students can attend during their junior and/or senior years. On the trip that our students were provided to see, they were able to tour many different classrooms for alternate learning possibilities. While touring the classrooms, the students could ask questions such as about the school, classes, or what it was like to go to CTC. This tour of CTC is given to the students of CHS for many different reasons: whether to give the students a chance to see what other learning opportunities they have, to help them decide what career path they want, or to show them there are classes for the majors they may be interested in.

The Grinch that Stole Chaffee

Dr. Suess Day

Tuesday, March 7th, the elementary kids will celebrate Dr. Seuss Day down at their school. The high school student council came down to the grade school in the morning dressed as Dr. Seuss characters and greeted them inside. After they greeted the kids, StuCo then broke up into groups and visited each classroom and read a Dr. Seuss book to the kids. The students got to the school around 7:00 am and put on their costumes. We had two cats in hats, a couple Thing One and Twos, Horton the Elephant, and the Grinch, to name a few. As the kids pulled up, the high schoolers were outside (acting a fool) giving out high fives. Different kids went to different classrooms and read to the kids while handing out pencils. Some kids laughed, some cried, but most of them loved the stories and had a fun time learning about Dr. Seuss.

Chaffee's very own Beta attended the Beta Club State Convention March 3-4 at the Hilton Convention Center, in Branson, MO. Students competed in a wide variety of events and the following places in the top five will attend Nationals in Louisville, KY in mid-June. These four students have placed and will be going to Nationals in June:

Andrew and Eli Nix: 2nd place in Three Dimensional Design

Gracelynn Stidham: 1st place Division Sculpture

FCA

Look out, FCA is having an exciting month! On the 25th of March we will be hosting the Celebrations of Faith at 6:30 in the Gym. On April 1st, there will be a sport-themed Fellowship in the Activity center from 6-9 pm! You may bring concession type foods to share with your friends. Chaffee's Community Care Portal is doing an egg hunt on April 1st as well, and you can find this event at the Frisco Park at 10am! FCA will also be selling Bunny Grams (eggs with candy) for $1; these will be delivered at the Chaffee High School on April 6th. If you have any questions please ask the FCA sponsors Mrs. Mayberry or Couch Waters.

Robotics

The Robotics team placed 5th in the District Competition and won the Inspired Award to make it to the State Competition. The Inspired Award goes to the team who has helped other teams and has made an impact to inspire the youth and the community.  In the State Competition the team placed 29th winning their first match. Unfortunately, the team did not advance far enough to make it to national competition.

The Table Top Gaming Club

The Tabletop Gaming Club has created a shirt to represent its members! The money for the shirts was due March 10th. Each shirt cost 26 dollars apiece. The shirts are tie-dyed grey with the Chaffee Devil in the middle of a D20.

Shop

With the warmer weather coming up and the end of the school year closing in, our students’ shop projects are steadily coming to a finish. For example, Jake Swinford is constructing a rocking chair with his name engraved on it. So far, it looks well-crafted and pretty professional for a high school student! Zane Pobst is also a good demonstration of how far the students are coming with their projects with his entertainment center. It’s sanded into a smooth finish with 7 drawers and a little slot in the middle. Shop Club is a great place for you to be in if you want to be able to build your own furniture or if you just enjoy creating things like that! In Shop, you also get to compete with the things you build. The club sets up for districts on May 4th and the actual district event and awards are on the 5th. We wanted to ask Mr. Dirnberger a quick question and the one we landed on was what his favorite memory of the year was. “I’m going to go with the day we moved metal and went to Texas Roadhouse. That was an eventful day for sure.” Stayed tuned for our district winners!

Faculty Appreciation

Teacher of the Month:

Mrs. Kinder

Christina Kinder is one of our establishment’s finest Science teachers, boasting many years of teaching experience. Teaching Science isn’t the easiest feat just anyone can do, but Kinder makes it look easy with a smile. Mrs. Kinder is an adamant lover of soups and salads, believing them to be two of her favorite types of food available. She enjoys many of the quieter activities in life, often catching up on literature or enjoying Missouri’s temperate weather and Spring’s arrival outdoors. Upon being asked if any staff members or students stood out to her, Mrs. Kinder simply stated that all staff and students here have been kind and helpful towards her so she cannot choose any favorites. Although being a junior high science teacher can be challenging every now and again, Kinder loves her students and finds her duty rewarding! “There are three sides to every story: your side, my side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each differently.”, Mrs. Kinder stated as a response to our questionnaire. “My grandmother shared this quote with me when I was a small kid. It has been helpful not just with teaching & parenting but with life in general.”. Christina Kinder is well respected amongst her peers and serves as a good example for not only a teacher of our district, but also as a role model for our students!

Staff of the Month:

Mrs. Kelly

Kelly Spies has been a member of the Chaffee High staff for 21 years! For her spotlight, we interviewed her with a few questions. To start it off, she provided us with some background information on her life. She has 3 sons: Braden, Kolton, and Carson. Mrs. Spies and her family live on a hobby farm, and have quite the selection of pets! They own goats, chickens, a horse, a sheep, mini donkeys, 3 dogs, and 4 cats. I’d say their hands are full! Her favorite hobby is spending time with her family and making memories with them. Like we said above, Mrs. Kelly Spies has been a part of the Chaffee Faculty for 21 years. Before this, she attended Southeast Missouri State University with a degree in accounting and worked as an auditor after graduating. After she had her first child, though, she said, “I decided I needed a more family friendly job so I came to the Chaffee schools and have been here ever since.” When we asked Spies her favorite thing about working in a school environment, she responded, “I love seeing our students here at Chaffee succeed in life, whether it is during high school or after they graduate. I have also enjoyed working at the same high school where my three boys attended.  Being able to have the same schedule as them for all these years has been a true blessing to me.” Since all of her sons played the sport then this must be no surprise: Mrs. Spies says that football is her favorite school sport to watch. With this she followed, “There is nothing better than Friday night lights.” We also asked her about if she ever received a Superlative/Senior personality in high school, and she did! She received the “Best All Around” from her classmates in high school! Next, we asked her what is a quote that she lives her life by. Mrs. Kelly responded, “Life is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we react to it." She also said that a moment in her life that she will never forget is when her 3 boys were born. The last question we had for her is how she likes to spend her summer. “I really don't have a summer break because I work through the summer months.  Actually, the summer months are one of the busiest times of the year in the Superintendent's office.  During the summer months, I do enjoy going camping and kayaking with my family though,” Spies replied. We are so lucky to have her on our staff for this long, and we appreciate her hard work for our school!
