Securing PowerShell with Active Directory and AI
Joe Howe, Security Analyst, City and County of Broomfield
Attackers are increasingly using AI to enhance Living off the Land (LotL) techniques, leveraging built-in system tools like PowerShell to evade detection. These attacks can execute entirely in memory, leaving no trace on disk and bypassing traditional security measures.
Defenders must stay ahead, and AI can be a powerful tool to analyze threats, test defenses, and improve security with custom alerts. This session will explore real-world LotL attacks, including keyloggers, reverse shells, and unauthorized admin changes. For each, we’ll examine detection methods, mitigation strategies, and AI-driven enhancements for threat identification and response.
Additionally, we’ll showcase AI’s role in open-source SIEM solutions, helping generate detection rules and automate incident response. By integrating AI with human expertise, security teams can accelerate defense strategies and strengthen resilience against evolving threats. This session delivers practical demonstrations, actionable insights, and a compelling case for AI as a cybersecurity force multiplier.

Harnessing Your M365 License
John White, Enterprise Solutions Architect, City of Westminster
"Most organizations are sitting on a goldmine with Microsoft 365 but only tapping into a fraction of what they’re paying for. M365 is often treated as “just Outlook and Teams,” while the rest of the suite, Power Automate, SharePoint, Purview, and beyond, sits underutilized or misconfigured. This creates new problems: sprawl, duplication, inefficiency, and modernization.
In this session, we’ll walk through how to take full advantage of your existing M365 licensing to build systems that reduce overhead, improve collaboration, and create sustainable automation. We’ll talk directly about common pain points: the explosion of Microsoft 365 Groups, file chaos, inconsistent data protection, and low digital literacy among leadership. And more importantly, we’ll explore strategies to fix them without spending more money or increasing administrative burden."
