Private lessons are the best way for young musicians to advance their musical skills. Private lessons are recommended for all band students at all ages, but are not required. Good private lesson instructors will work with students individually, usually weekly, and help students advance musicall more quickly. Private lessons are usually 30 - 60 minutes in time and can range from $20 - $80 an hour, depending on the instructors experience and level of expertise.
Private lesson teachers can be found throughout the community at local music stores, home studios, online (during the pandemic), and some will travel to your home (for a fee).
Good private lesson teachers will provide clear instruction, challenge and encourage student's musical progress above and beyond what we are able to cover in band, and will get to know students and learn how to work with them personally. Sometimes students work really well with some private lesson instructors, and not others. It is important to shop around if a student/instructor relationship is less than ideal.
If you are interested in finding a private lesson teacher, there is a website that collects data on local instructors at: https://sites.google.com/view/tucson-private-lesson-teachers/home
If you know of any private lesson teachers who are not on this website, and would like to be, there is a google form on the website where they can sign up to have their information posted.
