Cory Walavich has been teaching band since the Fall of 1998. Mr. Walavich holds degrees from from Northern Illinois University (Bachelors of Music Education) and The American Band College of Southern Oregon University (Masters of Music in Conducting). Mr. Walavich began his career in Joliet, Illinois, and then moved to Arizona and began teaching in Rio Rico. Mr. Walavich joined Esperero Canyon Middle School in 2010.
As a band director, Mr. Walavich has taught Beginning and Middle School band throughout his career, and as an assistant director for HS bands. Mr. Walavich is continuously active in state Music Education activities and events, and has most recently served as the Chairperson for the Southern Arizona Honors Band, and the Arizona Music Educators Association All-State Band Festival.
Mr. Walavich has been a clinician for many bands throughout the area, including the Southern Arizona 7th and 8th grade Honors Band, the Vail Middle School Honor Band, and the Sunnyside School District Middle School Honor Band.
Mr. Walavich's primary instrument is trombone, and he has continued performing throughout his career. His main performance gig now is as Principal Trombone with the Arizona Symphonic Winds.
