A major emphasis in this course is the development of children from conception to early childhood. Students will explore the physical, mental, social and emotional development of children. This course would be recommended for anyone considering a career in early childhood, education, social work and/or the medical field. As well as anyone interested in working with children in their future.
This is the study of individualized clothing selection, pattern alterations, basic sewing techniques, and the skills of operating a sewing machine. The student will also gain knowledge of fabrics and fiber care. This course is essential to the student desiring a career in a fashion-related area. It is designed to build construction knowledge required in the manufacturers of both garments and designs for the home. This course offers a creative outlet to both the student with fashion interests and the textile hobbyist!
This course is designed to provide additional experience and knowledge for students who have successfully completed Fashion Merchandising I. Study will include consumerism, textile care, the garment industry, and clothing for children, the physically impaired, and specialized tasks.More challenging projects will be required to help the students develop more advanced skills and techniques. One project will require the use of a commercial designer pattern. Daily participation in sewing lab is necessary for successful completion of this course. This class offers opportunity to further skills needed towards a career in fashion, as well as, to students looking for enriching activities.
Students will learn basic culinary concepts in this introductory food course and gain confidence in both home and career opportunities. This course will include units on baking techniques, single crust pastries, individual cake decorating, fruits/vegetables, eggs and pasta. Within each unit, there will be a focus on food preparation and selection of these food products. Students will analyze and apply nutrition principles into everyday life. Participation in cooking labs is important to be successful in this course. Foods I will be beneficial to students interested in a career or jobs in the culinary industry. It also will help further ones knowledge of how to prepare food for everyday living. This course is a prerequisite for Foods II.
Foods and Nutrition II is designed for students who have completed Foods and Nutrition I. The course will include units on the preparation and selection of meats, double crusted pastries, yeast breads, foreign, regional, and gourmet foods. In addition the course includes a unit on planning and preparing meals. This course is a prerequisite for Tiger Cafe.
Students will be trained for career opportunities in the food service/culinary arts industry. Students will be performing quantity food preparation as it relates to the food service business while learning safety and sanitation procedures. Students should have taken Foods I and II before taking this course.
This course is designed to give students an opportunity to explore the basics in the field of housing and interior design. Students gain knowledge in planning, designing and arranging interiors with a special emphasis on using color. This course involves several hands-on projects related to architecture & design, floor planning, and room arrangement. This course is recommended for those students interested in interior design, architecture, housing, real estate, and/or art related fields.
This course curriculum is a preparation for independent life after high school. The units of study include life-span relationships (work, family, friendships), marriage/family and other lifestyle events, such as aging, death and dying. This is a course ALL students will find valuable now and their future! This course fulfills the health credit.
