Nico Carver

I am the Librarian for Collaborative Programs at the Center for Astrophysics. I organize programs and events that help the scientists and other staff at the Center with their work. In addition, I coordinate some of the Library's public initiatives like Project PHaEDRA and the Library Space Technology Network. More information about these projects can be found at: https://wolba.ch

About Nico's Cosmic Creations

The history of astrophotography and the history of the CfA very much go hand-in-hand. It was at 60 Garden St. (where I work) that astronomers first started photographing the entire night sky on to glass plates. The history of these glass plate photographs and the groundbreaking work of the astronomers who studied them is a major focus of my current work with Project PHaEDRA that focuses especially on a group of early women astronomers who worked here including Williamina Fleming, Annie Jump Cannon, Henrietta Swan Leavitt, and Cecila Payne-Gaposchkin.

There has never been a better time to get started in amateur astrophotography. Either through remote telescopes (CfA's MicroObservatory Robotic Telescope Network) or in your own backyard. I'd be happy to talk to anyone interested about some ways to get started based on their own interests in the night sky and what they would like to photograph!
